Thunder Tigers-Website

A website named Thundertigers.net was launched on 17th July 2013 by Shubham Love, a student of Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave. This website is an initiative to make people aware of the pitiable conditions of the tigers and the incessant decline in their numbers. The main highlights of this website are- information about tigers, pictures, Tigerman comic, games and Tiger TV. Through Tiger TV all the latest updates about Tigers are made available to people in an animated form. It also provides Thundertiger App which is compatible with google, android, windows and ios. Shubham’s innovative venture has the full support of his family, friends, teachers and the school. You all are requested to visit this site to encourage and motivate him in this endeavor.

 


Drawing Competition
Wing - Primary


The Ministry of Power, Government of India.organized an All-India Drawing Competition. 5,80,000 children participated in the competition out of which only 50 children were selected for the final round. The final round of the competition was held at Vishwa Yuva Kendra, Chankyapuri on 14th November, 2013 and the topic was ‘Energy Conservation.’ Joyal Pasricha of Class V- A was also selected for the final round. She brought out her vivid imagination on paper and won herself a Consolation Prize. She was awarded with a Certificate, a Trophy, and a School Bag, a set of Colour Pencils, two T-Shirts and caps. She was also honoured with a cash prize of Rs. 1100.

 
     


Somerville School, Delhi Girl Wins Delhi State Senior Indian Classical Solo Competition

Bhargavi Thakur, a Class X student of Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave was declared Runners Up in the Delhi State Senior Indian Classical solo competition held on Monday for all the schools in Delhi state. This competition is organized by the Dept. of Education, Delhi Govt. to identify and reward the talents in schools of Delhi State and is conducted in three rounds of zonal, district and state levels. Bhargavi won first positions in zonal and district rounds and the won gold medal in these competitions. She was declared runners up in the State round held on Monday, 16th December. Bhargavi performed Raag Bhimpalasi which was much appreciated by the judges and the audience. Bhargavi who has been learning music and dance since the age of 3, said that she owes her success to her gurus and parents. She has a versatile talent and has been performing excellently at competitions held in her school and has also been representing Somerville School at various competitions for the last 5-6 years.

 
     


Sanskrit Academy Awards 2013

The Delhi Sanskrit Academy organizes various cultural activities to encourage the students to promote and enrich Sanskrit language.Students of Somerville School took part in various competitions organised by the Sanskrit Academy,Delhi in the month of September 2013 and won certificates and cash prizes. It was heartening to see the enthusiasm shown by the students in preparing for the events.

Anuvrat Singing Competition

Anuvrat Nyas Geet Gayan Pratiyogita is held annually to encourage students in the field of music and to provide them a platform to showcase their talent. The Indian Music Choir of our school participated in competition from 29th – 31st August and stood first at the District level. The winners were awarded and appreciated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Delhi, Ms. Sheila Dixit.

In the Solo category (Senior) Bhargavi Thakur of 10A stood first at the District level and second at the State level.   In the Solo category (Junior) Debasmitah Maji of 8D stood first at the District level.
     
 
     
 




"First Computers Technologies , an authorised Microsoft Office Specialist Centre , successfully conducted MOS programme on 27th August, 2013 in the school premises.

This programme proved to be extremely beneficial for the students .It gave them an in-depth knowledge of the various modules of MS-Office and also the confidence to work with MS-Office more efficiently .

The programme was diligently planned and executed by the team of First Computer Technologies along with Mrs. Ekta Grover and Mrs. Pratbha Poddar(Computer Department)

13 students participated in the competition and 11 students were certified. Eduskill conducted a special ceremony for prize distribution in the school on 15th October, 2013.

IIHM YOUNG CHEF INDIA SCHOOLS 2013

International Institute of Hotel Management(IIHM) recently held the ‘YOUNG CHEF INDIA - SCHOOLS 2013’ competition. Somerville School was represented by Anirudh Mathur (XII C), B. Naomi Grace (XII C) and Kanishka Singh (XIIE) in the preliminary round held on 14 May 2013.Kanishka and Anirudh were among the 60participants who were selected for the next round which was held on 5 Anirudh made it to the “Super 6” after facing a tough pressure test. The contest was judged by some of the eminent chefs th th July 2013.from across the country. Anirudh Mathur received a certificate, memento and gift vouchers. The event proved to be a rich learning experience for the students.

There was an Inter School Creative Writing Competition ( English and Hindi) in Ramjas Primary School,Daryaganj on 26th April 2013.

The children from Classes III to V were accompanied by Mrs. Savita Dutta.The topics were announced on the spot and the students were asked to attempt one topic. The children participated enthusiastically. Results are awaited.



Session 2012-2013

Mouli Khanna, studying in class VII, is energetic, sporty and full of life. She has brought laurels to our school. It makes us proud to acknowledge the achievements of this junior champion who has adorned herself with a Gold medal in the 12th Delhi State Karate- DO Championship ( 12yrs category) which was organized by Karate DO Association of India held at Talkatora Indoor Stadium on 30th December, 2012.
She has also qualified for a scholarship from The Sports Authority of India and soon she will be participating in the National Championship in Chennai. Mouli's hard work, zeal and dedication have helped her achieve this platform. This junior champ had been learning Karate for the last eight years. She represented our school in different inter- school championships.

Not only this, she has her kitty filled with awards, medals and certificates as well including The Tenshinkan Shotokan Ryu Karate Federation-India, National Tenshinkan Karate championship, Delhi State Karate-DO Championship, Inter School Karate Championship and so on.



Another star of our school is Aman Kedia of class IX A. He has proved his mettle in the field of Lawn Tennis. With his participation in the National Tournament organized by The All India Tennis Association, he has qualified for the main draw.

Along with this, he also won the Inter Noida Tournament organized by the Uttar Pradesh Tennis Association. His track record displays his participation at the National level in Lucknow, Patna, Gwalior, Chandigarh, Gurgaon, Faridabad tournaments and so on.

Aman's recreation time too is spent in polishing his skills in tennis. He is an eminent player who has won the under 16 tennis tournament and also secured the runner's up position (table tennis) organized by DDA Chilla Sports Complex Both Mouli and Aman are indeed a source of inspiration for all of us.

Their passion for Karate and Tennis respectively has not overpowered their dedication towards studies. We wish that these exemplary students reach the pinnacle of success and make us even more proud.

Commerce Students Excel in Inter-School Competition

On 16th October 2012, students from Classes XI and XII (Commerce Stream) participated in ‘Onizzonte’2012 the annual fiesta organised by the Department of Business Studies, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College.

The purpose of the event was to create an interface between schools and colleges and provide students a platform to showcase their analytical and logical reasoning skills, in addition to their innovation and creativity. Over forty leading Schools of Delhi and NCR participated in this fiesta.

The team from our school went on to win the first prize and the school trophy for ‘Innovative Product Design’ and ‘Creative Ad- Making’.

IIHM Young Chef India Schools 2012

Our school participated in ‘IIHM Young Chef India Schools 2012’ on 16th August, 2012.It was one of the biggest school level events of the year. Over 400 schools participated from all the corners of the nation.

The format for the Young Chef India Schools, 2012 is much broader and has aimed at creating an awareness and concern about Hospitality, Management and Culinary Arts as a lucrative and exciting option for youngsters. There was participation from nearly 70 schools from Delhi, Ludhiana and Chandigarh on the same day i.e., 16.08.2012. Arjun Jain of Class 12-B represented our school in the event. He made ‘Butter Paneer Shashlik Sizzler’ with ‘Butter Naan’. For dessert, he made ‘Phirni’. His dish was appreciated by the top most Chef of Shangri-La Hotel.

Arjun Jain has also been invited to attend a High Tea organized by the IIHM to announce the winner of the Delhi region on 28th August, 2012



Ramjas Foundation, Delhi organized an English Creative Writing Competition on 24th April, 2012. Many schools from Delhi and NCR participated in thecompetition. Our students Civia Mary Shummy stood first and Shubhum Love received a consolation prize. Congratulations to the winners !

B.L.DALMIA MEMORIAL TENNIS TOURNAMENT

Aman Kedia Class VIII A was a Semifinalist ( Boys under 16) in the AITA TALENT SERIES TOURNAMENT.

National Cyber Olympiad was held on the 8.9.11. 49 students participated in it.

Pranav Saxena of V E secured the first rank in Class V and Aashwin Sharma of IV D secured the first rank in Class IV.

Pulkit Agarwal of class III ( now in Class IV) secured 3rd position in Delhi in the Fourth International Maths Olympiad - Level II and received a cash prize of Rs 500 along with a certificate.

Anirudh Subramanian of Class IV ( now in Class V) secured the 321st rank all over India in the 4th International Maths Olympiad - Level II and won a CD worth Rs 500.

Pranav Saxena of class IV (now in Class V) secured the 42nd rank all over India in the Cyber Olympiad -Level II and won a cash prize of Rs 500.

Bhavya Rajdogra of Class V C participated in the State level painting Competition onConserve water for the future organized by the Ministry of Water resources.Govt of India and won a consolation prize.
